Here, we present the first investigation of telomere length across age in\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">\n                      <jats:italic>Molossus molossus<\/jats:italic>\n                    <\/jats:styled-content>\n                    , a tropical bat historically categorised as the shortest\u2010lived bat on record. Through a multi\u2010year mark\u2010recapture study in Gamboa, Panama, we sampled 492 individuals (\n                    <jats:italic>n<\/jats:italic>\n                    \u2009=\u2009317 females, 175 males) and documented a female\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">\n                      <jats:italic>M. molossus<\/jats:italic>\n                    <\/jats:styled-content>\n                    surviving to at least 13\u2009years of age, more than doubling the previously reported maximum lifespan of 5.6\u2009years. Relative telomere length (rTL) showed a negative association with age, although this association was not retained in sensitivity analyses. Males consistently exhibited longer telomeres than females in both robust and age\u2010matched analyses, while there was no evidence that age\u2010related telomere dynamics differed between the sexes. Overall, these findings challenge previous assumptions about the lifespan and ageing biology of\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">\n                      <jats:italic>M. molossus<\/jats:italic>\n                    <\/jats:styled-content>\n                    .
