Intramolecular O\u2013H<jats:bold>\u00b7\u00b7\u00b7<\/jats:bold>O hydrogen bonding interactions between the bridging aqua group and the monodentate benzoate groups stabilises the bridging structures. Aqua\u2010bridged nickel(II) benzoate complex is stable irrespective of solvent system and also can include solvent molecules such as toluene and benzene. A mixed chloro, aqua and 4\u2010chloro\u2010benzoato\u2010bridged Ni<jats:sup>II<\/jats:sup> binuclear complex was synthesised and structurally characterised.
