The lamellar material was first calcined at 823 K for four hours to eliminate all the carbonate ions; the layered structure was reconstructed after treatment with a solution of either pycH (pyridine\u20102\u2010carboxylic acid) or pydcH<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> (pyridine\u20102,6\u2010dicarboxylic acid) in a KOH solution of dmf at 343 K. Impregnation with a solution of the organometallic precursor [Mo(CO)<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>I<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>(NCCH<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>] led to substitution of the nitrile groups by two pyridine ligands. All the materials were characterized by powder X\u2010ray diffraction, FTIR, and <jats:sup>13<\/jats:sup>C CP MAS and <jats:sup>27<\/jats:sup>Al MAS solid\u2010state NMR spectroscopy. Similar Mo<jats:sup>II<\/jats:sup> complexes were also prepared by using pycH or pydcH<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> and characterized by elemental analysis as well as FTIR and <jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup>H and <jats:sup>13<\/jats:sup>C solution NMR spectroscopy. These new materials and the complexes of pyc or pydc ligands containing 4.54 wt.\u2010% and 6.33 wt.\u2010% of Mo respectively, catalyze the ring\u2010opening\u2010metathesis polymerization of norbornene and the polymerization of styrene at 333 K, their performance increasing upon the addition of methylalumoxane (MAO) as cocatalyst.(\u00a9 Wiley\u2010VCH Verlag GmbH &amp; Co.
