These donors show a redox behaviour that is comparable with similar unsubstituted TTF donors, with a small increase of the redox potentials due to the electron\u2010withdrawing effect of the pyridine and pyrazine groups. Single crystal X\u2010ray diffraction analyses show structures with a strong segregation of TTF and azo moieties. The pyridine\u2010substituted donor <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold> was used as a bridging ligand to prepare a dinuclear Co<jats:sup>II<\/jats:sup>\u2010coordination complex [<jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold>Co<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>(hfac)<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub>] (hfac = hexafluoroacetylacetonate) with redox properties identical to that of <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold>. This dinuclear complex presents an effective magnetic moment of ca. 8 \u03bc<jats:sub>B<\/jats:sub>, corresponding to nearly independent <jats:italic>S<\/jats:italic> = 3\/2 spins with weak antiferromagnetic interactions below 65 K.
