Reaction of <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold> with I<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>, HBF<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub> or AgBF<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub> yields [Mo(Tpms)I(CO)<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>] (<jats:bold>3<\/jats:bold>), [Mo(Tpms)H(CO)<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>] (<jats:bold>5<\/jats:bold>) or [Mo(Tpms)O<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>]<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>(\u03bc\u2010O) (<jats:bold>7<\/jats:bold>), respectively. The high\u2010oxidation\u2010state dinuclear complexes [{Mo(Tpms)O(\u03bc\u2010O)}<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>] (<jats:bold>4<\/jats:bold>) and [{Mo(tpms)OCl}<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>](\u03bc\u2010O) (<jats:bold>6<\/jats:bold>) are formed upon exposure to air of solutions of <jats:bold>3<\/jats:bold> and <jats:bold>5<\/jats:bold>, respectively. Compounds <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold>\u2013<jats:bold>7<\/jats:bold>, which appear to be the first tris(pyrazolyl)methanesulfonate complexes of molybdenum to be reported, were characterized by IR, <jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup>H and <jats:sup>13<\/jats:sup>C NMR spectroscopy, ESI\u2010MS, elemental analysis, cyclic voltammetry and, in the cases of Li(Tpms) and compounds <jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold>, <jats:bold>4\u00b7<\/jats:bold>2CH<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>CN, <jats:bold>6\u00b7<\/jats:bold>6CHCl<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> and <jats:bold>7<\/jats:bold>, by X\u2010ray diffraction analyses. Li(Tpms) forms a 1D polymeric structure {i.e., [Li(tpms)]<jats:italic><jats:sub>n<\/jats:sub><\/jats:italic>} with Tpms as a tetradentate N<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> chelating ligand that bridges two Li cations with distorted tetrahedral coordination. Compound <jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold> is a 1D coordination polymer in which Tpms acts as a bridging tetradentate N<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>O ligand and each Li(thf)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub><jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup> moiety is coordinated by one bridging CO ligand and by the sulfonyl group of a contiguous monomeric unit. In <jats:bold>4<\/jats:bold>, <jats:bold>6<\/jats:bold> and <jats:bold>7<\/jats:bold>, the Tpms ligand is a tridentate chelator either in the NNO (in <jats:bold>4<\/jats:bold>) or in the NNN (in <jats:bold>6<\/jats:bold> and <jats:bold>7<\/jats:bold>) fashion.
