The obtained compounds have been characterized by IR, <jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup>H and <jats:sup>13<\/jats:sup>C{<jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup>H} NMR spectroscopy, FAB\u2010MS(+) or ESI\u2010MS(+), elemental analyses and single\u2010crystal X\u2010ray diffraction [for <jats:bold>7<\/jats:bold> and solvated mono\u2010 {<jats:bold>1a\u00b7<\/jats:bold>(Me<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>CO)<jats:sub>0.33<\/jats:sub><jats:bold>\u00b7<\/jats:bold>(MeOH)<jats:sub>0.67<\/jats:sub>} and bis\u2010deprotonated (<jats:bold>2b\u00b7<\/jats:bold>2Me<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>CO, <jats:bold>4b\u00b7<\/jats:bold>CHCl<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>, <jats:bold>5b\u00b7<\/jats:bold>Me<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>CO and <jats:bold>6b\u00b7<\/jats:bold>MeOH) products, formed upon recrystallization of <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold>, <jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold>, <jats:bold>4<\/jats:bold>, <jats:bold>5<\/jats:bold> and <jats:bold>6<\/jats:bold>, respectively]. The crystal structures of all compounds bear similar monomeric Ni(tap)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> units with a nearly square\u2010planar geometry.
