Mono\u2010amidosils m\u2010A(<jats:italic>x<\/jats:italic>)<jats:italic><jats:sub>n<\/jats:sub><\/jats:italic>Eu(CF<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>SO<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>)<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> with <jats:italic>n<\/jats:italic>\u2009\u2265\u200910 (where <jats:italic>n<\/jats:italic> is the molar ratio of carbonyl groups per Eu<jats:sup>3+<\/jats:sup> ion) have been analyzed. The m\u2010A(8)<jats:italic><jats:sub>n<\/jats:sub><\/jats:italic>Eu(CF<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>SO<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>)<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> mono\u2010amidosils are transparent and amorphous films, in which the alkyl chains adopt <jats:italic>gauche<\/jats:italic> conformations. In contrast, the m\u2010A(14)<jats:italic><jats:sub>n<\/jats:sub><\/jats:italic>Eu(CF<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>SO<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>)<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> mono\u2010amidosils are solid powders; here the lamellar bilayer hierarchical structure of m\u2010A(14) coexists with a new lamellar phase in which the Eu<jats:sup>3+<\/jats:sup> ions are bonded to carbonyl oxygen atoms of the amide groups. At <jats:italic>n<\/jats:italic> = 10 the hydrogen\u2010bonded associations formed are highly ordered and considerably stronger than those found in the less concentrated hybrids and in the nondoped matrices. \u201cFree\u201d and weakly coordinated triflate ions occur in all the mono\u2010amidosil samples. The hybrids are white light emitters (maximum quantum yield: 0.08\u2009\u00b1\u20090.01), presenting a broad emission band in the blue\/purplish\u2010blue spectral region (ascribed to the hybrid host) superimposed on the <jats:sup>5<\/jats:sup>D<jats:sub>0<\/jats:sub>\u2192<jats:sup>7<\/jats:sup>F<jats:sub>0\u20134<\/jats:sub> Eu<jats:sup>3+<\/jats:sup> intra\u20104f<jats:sup>6<\/jats:sup> transitions. Two Eu<jats:sup>3+<\/jats:sup> local coordination sites (named A and B) have been discerned in both systems. Site A is attributed to weakly coordinated Eu<jats:sup>3+<\/jats:sup>\/CF<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>SO<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub><jats:sup>\u2013<\/jats:sup> ion pairs, whereas site B involves Eu<jats:sup>3+<\/jats:sup> coordination to the oxygen atoms of the C=O groups, of the CF<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>SO<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub><jats:sup>\u2013<\/jats:sup> ions and of the water molecules.
