{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,3,8]],"date-time":"2026-03-08T20:42:54Z","timestamp":1773002574257,"version":"3.50.1"},"reference-count":69,"publisher":"Wiley","issue":"5","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2011,1,10]],"date-time":"2011-01-10T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1294617600000},"content-version":"vor","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/termsAndConditions#vor"}],"content-domain":{"domain":["chemistry-europe.onlinelibrary.wiley.com"],"crossmark-restriction":true},"short-container-title":["Eur J Inorg Chem"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2011,2]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title><jats:p>The reduced Schiff bases of salicylaldehyde and pyridoxal (and <jats:italic>o<\/jats:italic>\u2010vaniline) with <jats:sc>L<\/jats:sc>\u2010tyrosine (Tyr) and <jats:sc>D<\/jats:sc>,<jats:sc>L<\/jats:sc>\u2010<jats:italic>o<\/jats:italic>\u2010tyrosine (<jats:italic>o<\/jats:italic>\u2010Tyr), designated as sal\u2010Tyr (<jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold>), sal\u2010<jats:italic>o<\/jats:italic>\u2010Tyr (<jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold>), pyr\u2010Tyr (<jats:bold>3<\/jats:bold>), pyr\u2010<jats:italic>o<\/jats:italic>\u2010Tyr (<jats:bold>4<\/jats:bold>), and <jats:italic>o<\/jats:italic>\u2010van\u2010<jats:sc>L<\/jats:sc>\u2010Tyr (<jats:bold>5<\/jats:bold>), as well as the oxidovanadium(IV) complex VO(sal\u2010<jats:italic>o<\/jats:italic>\u2010Tyr) (<jats:bold>6<\/jats:bold>) have been prepared. The compounds have been characterized in the solid state and in solution. The structure of <jats:bold>3<\/jats:bold> has been determined by X\u2010ray diffraction. Complexation of these ligands with vanadium in aqueous solution has been studied by pH potentiometry, UV\/Vis, and circular dichroism (for the <jats:sc>L<\/jats:sc>\u2010Tyr derivatives), as well as by EPR for the V<jats:sup>IV<\/jats:sup>O systems and <jats:sup>51<\/jats:sup>V NMR for the V<jats:sup>V<\/jats:sup>O<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> systems. Stoichiometries and complex formation constants have been determined by pH potentiometry (25 \u00b0C, <jats:italic>I<\/jats:italic> = 0.2 <jats:sc>M<\/jats:sc> KCl) 1:1 complexes are formed in most systems with variable protonation states VOLH<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> (only with <jats:bold>3<\/jats:bold> and <jats:bold>4<\/jats:bold>), VOLH, VOL, and VOLH<jats:sub>\u20131<\/jats:sub>. Dinuclear species (VOL)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>H and (VOL)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> were identified only in the case of <jats:bold>3<\/jats:bold>. Spectroscopic data provided information about the most probable binding modes for each stoichiometry.
