Its coordination to molybdenum and tungsten afforded optically pure (<jats:italic>R<\/jats:italic>)\u2010Cp<jats:sup>ox<\/jats:sup>M(\u03b7<jats:sup>3<\/jats:sup>\u2010C<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>H<jats:sub>5<\/jats:sub>)(CO)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> (M = Mo, W) in which the pendant oxazoline fragment is not coordinated to the metal center. Reaction of (<jats:italic>R<\/jats:italic>)\u2010Cp<jats:sup>ox<\/jats:sup>Mo(\u03b7<jats:sup>3<\/jats:sup>\u2010C<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>H<jats:sub>5<\/jats:sub>)(CO)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> with tetrafluoroboric acid gives the bidentate \u03b7<jats:sup>5<\/jats:sup>\u2010cyclopentadienyloxazoline complex [Cp<jats:sup>ox<\/jats:sup>Mo(CO)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>(NCMe)]BF<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub> in which the oxazoline is coordinated through the N\u2010atom to the molybdenum center. Their catalytic performance in the epoxidation of <jats:italic>cis<\/jats:italic>\u2010cyclooctene, (<jats:italic>R<\/jats:italic>)\u2010limonene, and <jats:italic>trans<\/jats:italic>\u2010\u03b2\u2010methylstyrene with H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> and <jats:italic>tert<\/jats:italic>\u2010butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as oxidants has been studied. (<jats:italic>R<\/jats:italic>)\u2010Cp<jats:sup>ox<\/jats:sup>W(\u03b7<jats:sup>3<\/jats:sup>\u2010C<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>H<jats:sub>5<\/jats:sub>)(CO)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> displayed high catalytic activity achieving quantitative conversion of cyclooctene epoxide in 2 h with H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>. [Cp<jats:sup>ox<\/jats:sup>Mo(CO)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>(NCMe)]<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup> has been shown to be an efficient catalyst with TBHP and H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>, reaching quantitative conversions of the corresponding epoxide in 30 min and 11 h, respectively. ESI\u2010MS studies of the reaction of [Cp<jats:sup>ox<\/jats:sup>Mo(CO)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>(NCMe)]<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup> with H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> and TBHP revealed the in situ formation of the corresponding peroxido [Cp<jats:sup>ox<\/jats:sup>Mo(O<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>)O]<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup> and dioxido [Cp<jats:sup>ox<\/jats:sup>MoO<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>]<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup> species, respectively. Further oxidation of these complexes resulted in the loss of the cyclopentadienyloxazoline ligand.
