Structural data, complemented by DFT calculations, suggests that three phenyltin groups connect two [\u03b1\u2010GeW<jats:sub>9<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>34<\/jats:sub>]<jats:sup>10\u2013<\/jats:sup> moieties to form the [(C<jats:sub>6<\/jats:sub>H<jats:sub>5<\/jats:sub>SnOH)<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>(\u03b1\u2010GeW<jats:sub>9<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>34<\/jats:sub>)<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>]<jats:sup>14\u2013<\/jats:sup> anion. Each tin atom displays a distorted\u2010octahedral environment, composed of two sets of equatorial oxygen atoms from two edge\u2010sharing WO<jats:sub>6<\/jats:sub> octahedra of each [\u03b1\u2010GeW<jats:sub>9<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>34<\/jats:sub>]<jats:sup>10\u2013<\/jats:sup> group, and one phenyl and one OH group in the axial positions. The DFT studies lend support to the experimental proposal of the molecular structure of this polyoxometalate.
