All of the compounds were characterized by ESI\u2010MS, IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and X\u2010ray diffraction analysis. Di\u2010 or tri\u2010deprotonated ligands display different coordination modes and lead to distinct nuclearities of the Cu<jats:sup>II<\/jats:sup> complexes depending on the conditions used for the syntheses. Complexes <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold>\u2013<jats:bold>3<\/jats:bold> were successfully tested as dual\u2010role catalysts for cyclohexane oxidation under acid\u2010free conditions in the ionic liquid [1\u2010butyl\u20103\u2010methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate, (bmim)(BF<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub>)] as well as in acetonitrile. The application of the ionic liquid (IL) increased the product yield and turnover number and decreased the reaction time, in comparison with those for the use of the conventional acetonitrile solvent.
