The Schiff bases, H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>L<jats:sup>1<\/jats:sup> and H<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>L<jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup>, were prepared by reacting ethane\u20101,2\u2010diamine or benzene\u20101,2\u2010diamine with 2\u2010hydroxy\u20105\u2010(pyridin\u20103\u2010yldiazenyl)benzaldehyde in absolute ethanol. Compounds <jats:bold>1\u20136<\/jats:bold> were characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopies, as well as by solid\u2010state single\u2010crystal X\u2010ray diffraction (except for <jats:bold>3<\/jats:bold> and <jats:bold>6<\/jats:bold>). In all the complexes the bis\u2010Schiff bases occupy the equatorial positions and the R groups are in axial sites. However, while <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold> and <jats:bold>5<\/jats:bold> are discrete molecules where the tin atoms adopt distorted octahedral geometries, <jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold> and <jats:bold>4<\/jats:bold> are monoperiodic polymers with the metal cations in pentagonal bipyramidal environments. Although solid state crystallographic results revealed asymmetrical molecular configurations, solution NMR studies proved symmetric arrangements for all the compounds. Tin NMR spectroscopy confirmed that all complexes are six\u2010coordinate in solution, despite variations in solid\u2010state coordination. Further analysis using Hirshfeld surface and fingerprint plots provided insights into intermolecular interactions in compounds <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold>, <jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold>, <jats:bold>4<\/jats:bold>, and <jats:bold>5<\/jats:bold>.
