According to local cuisine and pharmacopoeias, they used to be important as dietary supplements, providing bioactive compounds. Herein, we describe lipophilic (fatty acids, tocopherols and carotenoids) and hydrophilic (ascorbic acid, sugars and phenolic compounds) antioxidants, lipid peroxidation inhibition and free radical scavenging activity in aerial parts of two Lamiaceae species (<jats:italic>Mentha pulegium<\/jats:italic> and <jats:italic>Thymus pulegioides<\/jats:italic>). <jats:italic>M. pulegium<\/jats:italic> gave the highest antioxidant properties (EC<jats:sub>50<\/jats:sub>&lt;0.56\u2009mg\/mL), which is in agreement with its highest content in tocopherols, mainly \u03b1\u2010tocopherol (69.54\u2009mg\/100\u2009g), ascorbic acid (7.90\u2009mg\/100\u2009g), reducing sugars (7.99\u2009g\/100\u2009g) and phenolics. The presence of these lipophilic and hydrophilic antioxidants could explain its use as antiseptic, anti\u2010inflammatory and as food preservative and special sauce. <jats:italic>M. pulegium<\/jats:italic> revealed the highest content of fat, \u03b1\u2010linolenic (\u03c9\u20103) and linoleic (\u03c9\u20106) fatty acids, while <jats:italic>T. pulegioides<\/jats:italic> revealed the highest content of carbohydrates (89.35\u2009g\/100\u2009g).
