However, the precise structural and functional role of sulfotyrosine residues is not fully understood, so there is a demand for further detailed studies on the role of tyrosine sulfation in biochemical processes. Unfortunately, studies on the biological roles of tyrosine sulfation are hampered by difficulties in gaining access to large quantities of high\u2010purity and homogeneous sulfoproteins and sulfopeptides. This, however, may be addressed by appropriate solid\u2010phase peptide synthesis strategies, and these constitute the core subject of this review.
