Its structure was unequivocally confirmed by X\u2010ray crystallography. No cytotoxicity in human healthy fibroblasts and in two different cancer cell lines was observed, indicating its applicability in biological systems. Compound <jats:bold>4<\/jats:bold> interacts with CT\u2010DNA by intercalation between the adjacent base pairs of DNA with a high binding affinity [<jats:italic>K<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>b<\/jats:sub> = 2.0\u2009(\u00b10.20)\u2009\u00d7\u200910<jats:sup>5<\/jats:sup> <jats:sc>m<\/jats:sc><jats:sup>\u20131<\/jats:sup>], which is 10\u2009\u00d7 higher than that described for doxorubicin [<jats:italic>K<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>b<\/jats:sub> = 3.2\u2009(\u00b10.23)\u2009\u00d7\u200910<jats:sup>4<\/jats:sup> <jats:sc>m<\/jats:sc><jats:sup>\u20131<\/jats:sup>].
