At optimal conditions, the sensitivity to nitrite and the maximum current density were 2.4\u00b10.1\u2005A\u2005L\u2005mol<jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup>\u2005cm<jats:sup>\u22122<\/jats:sup> and 1500\u2005\u00b5A\u2005cm<jats:sup>\u22122<\/jats:sup>, respectively. Since the biosensor performance decreased over time, laponite clay and electropolymerized amphiphilic pyrrole were tested as protecting layers.
