A single BiFE (6.2\u2005nm film thickness) can be used for a 1\u2010day term with no significant variation in the analytical signal. The limit of detection (3\u03c3) for a deposition time of 40\u2005s and an oxidation current of 15\u00d710<jats:sup>\u22129<\/jats:sup>\u2005A was 1.5\u00d710<jats:sup>\u22128<\/jats:sup>\u2005M for Pb(II) and 3.0\u00d710<jats:sup>\u22128<\/jats:sup> M for Cd(II).
