{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2026,2,10]],"date-time":"2026-02-10T18:08:18Z","timestamp":1770746898998,"version":"3.49.0"},"reference-count":37,"publisher":"Wiley","issue":"20","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2004,10,18]],"date-time":"2004-10-18T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1098057600000},"content-version":"vor","delay-in-days":17,"URL":"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/termsAndConditions#vor"}],"content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":["Electrophoresis"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2004,10]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title><jats:p>In this prospective study, for the first time we have separated and quantified amyloid \u03b2 (A\u03b2) peptides in the plasma of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD, <jats:italic>n<\/jats:italic> = 8) and age\u2010 and environment\u2010matched healthy controls (<jats:italic>n<\/jats:italic> = 9) with urea\u2010based A\u03b2\u2010sodium dodecyl sulfate\u2010polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS\u2010PAGE)\/immunoblot. In addition to the A\u03b2 peptides 1\u201337\/38\/39\/40\/42, which we recently identified as regular constituents of human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), we have observed a novel electrophoretic band migrating slightly cathodically to A\u03b21\u201342. Since a standard peptide with the amino acid sequence A\u03b22\u201340 migrates in the same position, we hypothesize that this plasma\u2010specific band may correspond to A\u03b22\u201340. The concentration of A\u03b2 peptides in the plasma has been approximately 100\u2010fold lower compared to the CSF. Interestingly, the concentration of the two shortest peptides and the longest one of these considered here (<jats:italic>i.e.<\/jats:italic>, A\u03b21\u201337\/38\/42) have increased significantly when the samples have been frozen at \u201380\u00b0C before immunoprecipitation, while the \u2018middle\u2010length' peptides (<jats:italic>i.e.<\/jats:italic>, A\u03b21\u201339\/40) have not been affected by this procedure. We have not observed significant differences of the A\u03b2 peptides concentrations between AD and control subjects.
