{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2025,10,31]],"date-time":"2025-10-31T07:01:39Z","timestamp":1761894099506,"version":"build-2065373602"},"reference-count":27,"publisher":"Wiley","issue":"9","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2005,3,10]],"date-time":"2005-03-10T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1110412800000},"content-version":"vor","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/termsAndConditions#vor"}],"content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":["Electrophoresis"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2005,5]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title><jats:p>We describe a new method for the determination of methylglyoxal in water and biological matrices, using <jats:italic>o<\/jats:italic>\u2010phenylenediamine as derivatizing agent and solid\u2010phase extraction followed by capillary zone electrophoresis with diode array detection. 25\u00a0m<jats:sc>M<\/jats:sc> sodium phosphate running buffers at pH\u00a02.2, 30\u00a0kV, and 25\u00b0C allowed the best instrumental conditions for the optimum separation of methylglyoxal in a suitable analytical time (&lt; 10\u00a0min), using an uncoated fused\u2010silica capillary of 75\u00a0\u00b5m inner diameter and an effective length of 45.1\u00a0cm with an extended light path and the wavelength set to 200\u00a0nm. Under optimized instrumental conditions, good reproducibility of the migration time (&lt;\u00a01.1%), precision (&lt; 5%), an excellent linear dynamic range from 0.1 to 3.6\u00a0mg\/L (<jats:italic>r<\/jats:italic><jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup> = 0.9997), and low limits of detection (7.2\u00a0\u00b5g\/L) were obtained for methylglyoxal measurements, using the internal standard methodology. Assays on laboratory\u2010spiked tap and ground water samples allowed a remarkable accuracy, presenting yields of 95.0 \u00b1 4.3 and 94.0 \u00b1 1.1%, respectively, and good performance to determine methylglyoxal in beer and yeast cells suspensions matrices was also obtained at trace level.
