For performance assessment, a suitable simulation methodology has been used which combines signal simulation with noise analysis in optically amplified multichannel direct detection systems. Simulation results show an improved system performance if a double cavity Fabry\u2010Perot filter is used as demultiplexer, resulting in WDM transmission with a crosstalk penalty less than 1 dB in the region of small linear increase of dispersion penalty of the DST method.
