After the addition of chloramphenicol as the internal standard, samples were processed using an SPE procedure. The chiral chromatographic analysis was carried out on a LiChroCART 250\u20104 ChiraDex column, employing a mobile phase of water and methanol (88:12, v\/v) pumped at 0.9\u2009mL\/min and the UV detector set at 235\u2009nm. The assay was linear (<jats:italic>r<\/jats:italic><jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup>\u22650.995) for ESL, CBZ, OXC, <jats:italic>S<\/jats:italic>\u2010Lic, <jats:italic>R<\/jats:italic>\u2010Lic and CBZ\u2010E in the range of, respectively, 0.2\u20134, 0.4\u201330, 0.1\u201360, 0.2\u201360, 0.2\u201360 and 0.2\u201330\u2009\u03bcg\/mL, in plasma, and of 0.06\u20131.5\u2009\u03bcg\/mL for ESL, 0.12\u201315\u2009\u03bcg\/mL for CBZ and CBZ\u2010E and 0.06\u201315\u2009\u03bcg\/mL for OXC and both licarbazepine (Lic) enantiomers in brain homogenate supernatant. The overall precision was within 8.71% and accuracy ranged from \u22127.55 to 8.97%. The recoveries of all the compounds were over 92.1%.
