Silva","award":["SFRH\/BPD\/62877\/2009"],"award-info":[{"award-number":["SFRH\/BPD\/62877\/2009"]}]}],"content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":["J of Separation Science"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2012,4]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>Due to strong implications for food safety, control of fluoroquinolones residues in swine meat should be undertaken to verify compliance of the contamination levels with the maximum residue limits recently updated by <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">C<\/jats:styled-content>ommission <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">R<\/jats:styled-content>egulation (<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">EU<\/jats:styled-content>) <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">N<\/jats:styled-content>o. 37\/2010 of 22 <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">D<\/jats:styled-content>ecember 2009. Solid\u2010phase extraction is widely used in antibiotic analysis in food of animal origin. In this study, the results of a comparative study using different types of solid\u2010phase extraction columns, <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">HLB<\/jats:styled-content>, <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">MCX<\/jats:styled-content>, and <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">MAX<\/jats:styled-content>, for ciprofloxacin and enrofloxacin analysis, in pork meat, are presented. In addition, diverse sample treatments for defatting, precipitate proteins, eliminate cations, and increase the ionic strength, were used to obtain the most suitable method of analysis. Only the <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">MCX<\/jats:styled-content>'s use followed by liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection resulted in chromatograms that allow the quantification at maximum residue limits. The validation method, in terms of <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">CC<\/jats:styled-content>\u03b1 and <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">CC<\/jats:styled-content>\u03b2, recovery and precision determination, was according to the <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">EU D<\/jats:styled-content>ecision 2002\/657\/<jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">EC<\/jats:styled-content>. This procedure was used in the analysis of 50 samples of pork meat of <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">P<\/jats:styled-content>ortuguese origin.
