Interaction with Cu<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup>, Zn<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup>, Cd<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup>, Hg<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup>, and Hg<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup> ions was followed by UV\/Vis and emission spectroscopy. Upon addition of these metal ions, different colorimetric and fluorescent responses were observed. \u201cOff\u2010on\u2010off\u201d (Cu<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup>, Zn<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup>, and Hg<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup>) and \u201coff\u2010on\u201d (Hg<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup> and Cd<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup>) systems were obtained. Probe <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold> was explored to mimic XOR and OR logic operations for the simultaneous detection of Hg<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup>\u2013Cu<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup> and Hg<jats:sup>+<\/jats:sup>\u2013Zn<jats:sup>2+<\/jats:sup> pairs, respectively.
