Compounds <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold> and <jats:bold>3<\/jats:bold> have 1D zigzag\u2010 and double\u2010chain\u2010type structures, respectively, whereas <jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold> features a dinuclear metallomacrocyclic complex. The ligand (L<jats:sup>2\u2212<\/jats:sup>) orients in different conformations, that is, <jats:italic>syn\u2010syn<\/jats:italic> for <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold> and <jats:italic>anti\u2010anti<\/jats:italic> for <jats:bold>2<\/jats:bold> and <jats:bold>3<\/jats:bold>. Compound <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold> is the first example in which the <jats:italic>syn\u2010syn<\/jats:italic> conformation for this ligand has been observed. These compounds act as heterogeneous catalysts for the nitroaldol (Henry; in water medium) and Knoevenagel condensation reactions of different aldehydes, and the most effective is zinc coordination polymer <jats:bold>1<\/jats:bold>.
