In the poor solvent methylcyclohexane (MCH), X\u2010ray scattering indicates that PF1\u201011 and PF1\u201015 appear as three\u2010dimensional aggregates (5\u201310 nm wide and thick), forming ribbon\u2010like agglomerates (correlation lengths of 100\u2009nm). PF6 and PF8 appear as two\u2010dimensional aggregates (&gt;10 nm wide and 2\u20133 nm thick) involving ribbon\u2010like agglomerates (correlation lengths much greater than 100\u2009nm). Upon heating, all aggregates undergo a gel\u2013sol transition which occurs at lower temperatures for PF1\u201011 and PF1\u201015 (&lt;60\u00b0C) than for PF6 and PF8 (&gt;80\u00b0C). In the good solvent toluene, PF1\u201011 and PF1\u201015 form networks of cylindrical particles. The mesh size and the cylinder radius are smaller in 24\u00b0C toluene (60\u2009nm, 0.5 nm) than in 60\u00b0C MCH (300\u2009nm, 1\u20132 nm). Nuclear magnetic resonance spectra in toluene\u2010<jats:italic>d<\/jats:italic><jats:sub>8<\/jats:sub> together with density functional theory calculations suggest higher torsion angles between polymer repeat units for PF6, PF8, and PF1\u201011 (less planar conformation) and a gauche arrangement of the dihedral angles between the bridge carbon atom and the side chain methylene groups in PF1\u201015. \u00a9 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
