Status Solidi (c)"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2010,11]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title><jats:p>Thin films composed by (BaTiO<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>)<jats:sub>1\u2010x<\/jats:sub>\u2010(NiFe<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub>)<jats:sub>x<\/jats:sub> with different nickel ferrite concentrations (<jats:italic>x<\/jats:italic>) have been deposited by pulsed laser ablation on platinum covered Si(001) substrates. The films structure was studied by X\u2010ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. It was found that the NiFe<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub> phase unit cell was expanded along the growth direction of the films, with a lattice parameter that increased with increasing NiFe<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub> concentration. The opposite behavior was observed on the BaTiO<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> phase, with an expansion of its unit cell that lowered with increasing <jats:italic>x<\/jats:italic>. The presence of the strain in the films induced a redshift of the Raman peaks of NiFe<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub> that decreased with increasing NiFe<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub> concentration. Cation disorder in the nickel ferrite was observed for lower <jats:italic>x<\/jats:italic>, where the nanograins are more isolated and subjected to more strain, which was progressively decreased for higher NiFe<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>O<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub> content in the films.
