Pays\u2010Bas"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[1965,1]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title><jats:p>A study of the proton N.M.R. spectra of (aza)biphenyls at several temperatures and in various solvents has shown that the planarity of these molecules increases in the series biphenyl, 2\u2010phenylpyridine, 2\u2010phenylpyrimidine and 2,2\u2032\u2010bipyridyl, the latter compound being mainly <jats:italic>trans<\/jats:italic> at room temperature. It follows that an <jats:italic>ortho\u2010ortho<\/jats:italic> CH\u2026 N interaction is less repulsive than a corresponding CH\u2026 CH interaction.
