Herein, we report the application of several nanocomposites, prepared by the incorporation of a vanadium\u2010substituted phosphomolybdate [PMo\n                    <jats:sub>11<\/jats:sub>\n                    VO\n                    <jats:sub>40<\/jats:sub>\n                    ]\n                    <jats:sup>4\u2212<\/jats:sup>\n                    (PMo\n                    <jats:sub>11<\/jats:sub>\n                    V) into some carbon\u2010based materials (carbon black (CBV), single\u2010walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and graphene (GF)), as ORR electrocatalysts. All nanocomposites, denominated as PMo\n                    <jats:sub>11<\/jats:sub>\n                    V@CBV, PMo\n                    <jats:sub>11<\/jats:sub>\n                    V@SWCNT and PMo\n                    <jats:sub>11<\/jats:sub>\n                    V@GF, show electrocatalytic activity for the ORR in acidic medium (pH\u20052.5 H\n                    <jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>\n                    SO\n                    <jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub>\n                    \/Li\n                    <jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub>\n                    SO\n                    <jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub>\n                    buffer solution), with a strong dependency between the electrocatalytic ORR performance and the carbon\u2010based material employed. Among the materials studied, the PMo\n                    <jats:sub>11<\/jats:sub>\n                    V@GF nanocomposite exhibits the most promising performance, having the less negative onset potential (\n                    <jats:italic>E<\/jats:italic>\n                    <jats:sub>onset<\/jats:sub>\n                    =\u20100.16\u2005V vs. Ag\/AgCl (0.18\u2005V vs. RHE)), which is explained by the excellent electronic properties of GF. An ORR process based in a 2\u2010electron mechanism is assumed for all modified electrodes. The PMo\n                    <jats:sub>11<\/jats:sub>\n                    V\u2010 and the nanocomposite\u2010modified electrodes are also effective for the reduction of hydrogen peroxide, with PMo\n                    <jats:sub>11<\/jats:sub>\n                    V@GF displaying the most promising electrocatalytic performance. The successful preparation of the nanocomposites is confirmed by X\u2010ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy techniques.
