This recyclable approach resulted in significant improvement in overall yield (85\u201090%), high purity and minimized production of chemical waste without using toxic reagents. The formation of compound, 2\u2010amino\u20107\u2010oxo\u20104,5,6,7\u2010tetrahydro\u20101\u2010benzothiophene\u20103\u2010carbonitrile (\n                    <jats:bold>3\u2009a<\/jats:bold>\n                    ) was additionally supported by\n                    <jats:italic>X<\/jats:italic>\n                    \u2010ray crystallography and was found to crystallize in\n                    <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic>\n                    2\n                    <jats:sub>1<\/jats:sub>\n                    \/n space group. The mode of binding of\n                    <jats:bold>3\u2009a<\/jats:bold>\n                    with human serum albumin (HSA) was studied by FTIR, UV spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, circular dichroism (CD) and molecular docking studies. The fluorescence results establish that compound\n                    <jats:bold>3\u2009a<\/jats:bold>\n                    interacted with HSA\n                    <jats:italic>via<\/jats:italic>\n                    static quenching mechanism with a binding affinity of 11.49 \u00d7 10\n                    <jats:sup>\u22124<\/jats:sup>\n                    \u2005mol\n                    <jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup>\n                    and Gibbs free energy change (\u0394G) of\u22126.8\u2005kcal\u2009mol\n                    <jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup>\n                    .
