Herein, Nb<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub>AlC<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> MAX phase is prepared by a solid\u2010state mixing reaction and characterized morphologically and structurally by transmission and scanning electron microscopy with energy\u2010dispersive X\u2010ray spectroscopy, nitrogen\u2010sorption, X\u2010ray diffraction analysis, X\u2010ray photoelectron and Raman spectroscopy. Electrochemical performance of Nb<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub>AlC<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> in terms of capacitance as well as for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is evaluated in different electrolytes. The specific capacitance C<jats:sub>s<\/jats:sub> of 66.4, 55.0, and 46.0 F g<jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup> at 5\u00a0mV s<jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup> is determined for acidic, neutral and alkaline medium, respectively. Continuous cycling reveals high capacitance retention in three electrolyte media; moreover, increase of capacitance is observed in acidic and neutral media. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy\u00a0showed a low charge transfer resistance of 64.76 \u03a9 cm<jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup> that resulted in better performance for HER in acidic medium (Tafel slope of 60\u00a0mV dec<jats:sup>\u22121<\/jats:sup>).
