Herein CDs are produced from <jats:italic>Agapanthus africanus<\/jats:italic> (L.) Hoffmann leaves by carbonization at 200\/300 \u00b0C for 2\/3\u00a0h. Samples are named CZ\u2010X\u2010Y, where Z, X, and Y represent carbonization, temperature, and time, respectively. CZ\u2010200\u20103, CZ\u2010300\u20102, and CZ\u2010300\u20103 CDs have average sizes of 3.7 \u00b1 0.7, 5.3 \u00b1 1.2, and 5.1 \u00b1 1.6\u00a0nm, respectively. Their surface, devoid of chlorophyll, contains \u2500OH, \u2500C\u2550O, and \u2500C(\u2550O)OH groups and sylvite. Isolated CZ\u2010300\u20103 emits at 400\u00a0nm (excited at 260\u00a0nm) and exhibits an emission quantum yield (QY) value of 2 \u00b1 1%. Embedding in the d\u2010U(600)\/d\u2010(900) di\u2010ureasil matrices resulted in transparent films with emission intensity maxima at 420\/450\u00a0nm (360\u00a0nm), and QY values of 7 \u00b1 1\/16 \u00b1 2% (400\u00a0nm). The enhancement of the QY value of the bare CDs agrees with\u00a0an efficient passivation provided by the hybrid host.
