It is grounded in an experiential learning approach and allows users to interactively explore core LLM mechanisms, the main criteria of prompt construction, and their effects on reliability and biases of LLM outputs in relation to journalistic quality standards. Such affordances, that are lacking in current LLM chatbots, should facilitate the development of appropriate mental models through system interaction which can help media professionals ensure that the use of generative AI is aligned with journalistic standards. Preliminary results from evaluation sessions with target users (N=23) support the suitability of the chosen approach and the tool design: participants reported a better understanding of both LLM mechanisms and prompt construction, while achieving high user satisfaction with system usability (average SUS score of 81.3 in facilitated and 75.7 in unfacilitated sessions). Future work includes expanding the functionalities of the prototype, more closely evaluating the impact on mental models, and integrating the tool into AI literacy training programs for media professionals.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1007\/978-3-032-30784-2_15","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2026,7,8]],"date-time":"2026-07-08T22:08:23Z","timestamp":1783548503000},"page":"244-262","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/springer_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["PromptED: An Interactive Tool for Generative AI Literacy for Media Professionals"],"prefix":"10.1007","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-8296-3350","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Jasminko","family":"Novak","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Annie","family":"Tang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Nathan","family":"Sowder","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"297","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2026,7,9]]},"reference":[{"key":"15_CR1","volume-title":"Some Observations on Mental Models","author":"DA Norman","year":"1983","unstructured":"Norman, D.A.: Some Observations on Mental Models.
