With an increasing number of people with disabilities playing mainstream commercial games, it is important that we understand who they are and how they play in order to take a more user-centered approach as this field grows. We conducted a demographic survey of 154 players with disabilities and found that they play mainstream digital games using a variety of assistive technologies, use accessibility options such as key remapping and subtitles, and they identify themselves as gamers who play digital games as their primary hobby. This gives us a richer picture of players with disabilities and indicates that there are opportunities to begin to look at the accessible player experiences (APX) players have in games.\n<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1007\/978-3-319-94277-3_40","type":"book-chapter","created":{"date-parts":[[2018,6,25]],"date-time":"2018-06-25T17:30:46Z","timestamp":1529947846000},"page":"245-253","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/springer_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":32,"title":["Accessible Player Experiences (APX): The Players"],"prefix":"10.1007","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-9284-2867","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Jen","family":"Beeston","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-9486-8043","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Christopher","family":"Power","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-6508-372X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Paul","family":"Cairns","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-7081-0314","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Mark","family":"Barlet","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"297","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2018,6,26]]},"reference":[{"key":"40_CR1","series-title":"Lecture Notes in Computer Science","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","first-page":"518","DOI":"10.1007\/978-3-540-69736-7_55","volume-title":"Technologies for e-Learning and Digital Entertainment","author":"D Archambault","year":"2008","unstructured":"Archambault, D., Gaudy, T., Miesenberger, K., Natkin, S., Ossmann, R.: Towards generalised accessibility of computer games.
