This approach can lead to policy assessments that ignore crucial social contextual factors. For example, by leaving out distinctive moral and normative dimensions of cultural contexts in artificial societies, estimations of downstream policy effectiveness fail to account for dynamics that are fundamental in human life and central to many public policy challenges. In this paper, we supply evidence that incorporating morally salient dimensions of a culture is critically important for producing relevant and accurate evaluations of social policy when using multi-agent artificial intelligence models and simulations.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1007\/s00146-020-01028-5","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2020,8,7]],"date-time":"2020-08-07T09:03:04Z","timestamp":1596790984000},"page":"49-57","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/springer_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":31,"title":["Minding morality: ethical artificial societies for public policy modeling"],"prefix":"10.1007","volume":"36","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-2389-2809","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Saikou Y.","family":"Diallo","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-0588-6977","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"F.
