To help expedite the adoption process, this study used a mixed-methods approach to identify the key factors that promote intentions to use VR technology in medical training. The qualitative research was based on interviews with five doctors and medical students, which focused on identifying the most significant determinants. Next, a survey was conducted to collect data from 154 medical interns and students in Spanish universities and hospitals, whose responses were processed using partial least squares-structural equation analysis. The limited sample size means this study is exploratory. The results indicate that perceived entertainment significantly strengthens behavioural intention to use VR technology in medical courses. The findings also underline the potential uses of VR learning tools in healthcare contexts and the need to incorporate this technology into medical training.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1007\/s10055-024-00990-5","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2024,4,2]],"date-time":"2024-04-02T08:01:47Z","timestamp":1712044907000},"update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/springer_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":10,"title":["Key determinants of intention to use virtual reality in medical training"],"prefix":"10.1007","volume":"28","author":[{"given":"Pilar","family":"Alarcon-Urbistondo","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-8784-9888","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Javier","family":"Perez-Aranda","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Ana","family":"Casado-Molina","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"297","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2024,4,2]]},"reference":[{"key":"990_CR1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.3389\/ijph.2021.633451","volume":"66","author":"NJ Aebi","year":"2021","unstructured":"Aebi NJ, De Ridder D, Ochoa C, Petrovic D, Fadda M, Elayan S, Sykora M, Puhan M, Naslund JA, Mooney SJ, Gruebner O (2021) Can big data be used to monitor the mental health consequences of COVID-19?
