One contributing factor for efficiency is polysemy which refers to reusing representamens of signs in different contexts. Two different types of polysemy are identified: ambiguous polysemy which encodes a view from part signs to compound signs and simultaneous polysemy for analysing how compound signs simultaneously denote more than one meaning. Two detailed examples are included.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1007\/s10472-022-09795-1","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2022,4,19]],"date-time":"2022-04-19T04:04:27Z","timestamp":1650341067000},"page":"1125-1138","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/springer_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":3,"title":["A semiotic perspective on polysemy"],"prefix":"10.1007","volume":"90","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-0375-429X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Uta","family":"Priss","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"297","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2022,4,19]]},"reference":[{"key":"9795_CR1","volume-title":"Hyperproof.
