While the present research on this explicit interaction among VLE implementation and student mental health is limited, the material suggests a framework for strong utilization of VLEs. Overall, our research has shown that authentic, high quality VLEs are ones that have as their primary focus the communication between students and their teachers and between students and their peers. This communication is best generated through synchronous connections where there exists the ability to convey the student\u2019s immediate needs in real-time. Our research results and discussion will outline how a team approach that brings together teachers, students, administration, counsellors, mental health support staff, instructional designers, and ICT specialists is necessary to create a genuinely enriching VLE where both learning and social-emotional needs can be met. The authors present a case for further study in order to reveal the nature of the interaction among VLEs and student mental health.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1007\/s10639-021-10768-w","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,10,6]],"date-time":"2021-10-06T11:23:23Z","timestamp":1633519403000},"page":"3683-3722","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/springer_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":56,"title":["Effects of virtual learning environments: A scoping review of literature"],"prefix":"10.1007","volume":"27","author":[{"given":"Laura","family":"Caprara","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Cataldo","family":"Caprara","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"297","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2021,10,6]]},"reference":[{"issue":"13","key":"10768_CR1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","first-page":"1629","DOI":"10.2147\/JMDH.S287389","volume":"2020","author":"A Al Karani","year":"2020","unstructured":"Al Karani, A., & Thobaity, A.
