Critiques contend that without such an explicit commitment, VSD lacks a methodology for distinguishing genuine moral values from mere stakeholders-preferences and runs the risk of attending to a set of values that is unprincipled or unbounded. We argue that VSD practitioners need to complement it with an ethical theory. We argue in favour of a mid-level ethical theory to fulfil this role.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1007\/s10676-018-9467-3","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2018,7,12]],"date-time":"2018-07-12T05:28:07Z","timestamp":1531373287000},"page":"23-26","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/springer_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":62,"title":["Why value sensitive design needs ethical commitments"],"prefix":"10.1007","volume":"23","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-7088-4628","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Naomi","family":"Jacobs","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Alina","family":"Huldtgren","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"297","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2018,7,12]]},"reference":[{"issue":"1","key":"9467_CR1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","first-page":"63","DOI":"10.1007\/s10676-006-9129-8","volume":"9","author":"A Albrechtslund","year":"2007","unstructured":"Albrechtslund, A.
