Such predictions are of significant interest to the process stakeholders. However, most of the state-of-the-art methods for predictive monitoring require the training of complex machine learning models, which is often inefficient. Moreover, most of these methods require a hyper-parameter optimization that requires several repetitions of the training process which is not feasible in many real-life applications. In this paper, we propose an instance selection procedure that allows sampling training process instances for prediction models. We show that our instance selection procedure allows for a significant increase of training speed for next activity and remaining time prediction methods while maintaining reliable levels of prediction accuracy.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1007\/s10844-022-00775-9","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2023,3,6]],"date-time":"2023-03-06T21:05:46Z","timestamp":1678136746000},"page":"53-82","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/springer_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":15,"title":["Performance-preserving event log sampling for predictive monitoring"],"prefix":"10.1007","volume":"61","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-3152-2103","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Mohammadreza","family":"Fani Sani","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Mozhgan","family":"Vazifehdoostirani","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Gyunam","family":"Park","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Marco","family":"Pegoraro","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Sebastiaan J.","family":"van Zelst","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Wil M.
