Here, we show how DS can be assigned a compositional distributional semantics which enables such judgements and makes it possible to incrementally disambiguate language constructs using vector space semantics. Building on a proposal in our previous work, we implement and evaluate our model on real data, showing that it outperforms a commonly used additive baseline. In conclusion, we argue that these results set the ground for an account of the non-determinism of lexical content, in which the nature of word meaning is its dependence on surrounding context for its construal.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1007\/s10849-021-09337-8","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,7,7]],"date-time":"2021-07-07T04:02:31Z","timestamp":1625630551000},"page":"379-406","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/springer_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":3,"title":["Incremental Composition in Distributional Semantics"],"prefix":"10.1007","volume":"30","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-2297-1273","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Matthew","family":"Purver","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-5863-7835","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Mehrnoosh","family":"Sadrzadeh","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-5096-3812","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Ruth","family":"Kempson","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Gijs","family":"Wijnholds","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Julian","family":"Hough","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"297","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2021,7,7]]},"reference":[{"key":"9337_CR1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.7551\/mitpress\/10111.001.0001","volume-title":"After phrenology: Neural reuse and the interactive brain","author":"ML Anderson","year":"2014","unstructured":"Anderson, M.
