In this article, we propose a methodological model for a comprehensive ethical analysis of some uses of AI, notably as a replacement of human actors in specific activities. We emphasize the need for conceptual clarification of relevant key terms (e.g., intelligence) in order to undertake such reflection. Against that background, we distinguish two levels of ethical analysis, one practical and one theoretical. Focusing on the state of AI at present, we suggest that regardless of the presence of intelligence, the lack of morally relevant features calls for caution when considering the role of AI in some specific human activities.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1007\/s11948-020-00238-w","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2020,7,7]],"date-time":"2020-07-07T13:03:57Z","timestamp":1594127037000},"page":"2413-2425","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/springer_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":29,"title":["Towards Establishing Criteria for the Ethical Analysis of Artificial Intelligence"],"prefix":"10.1007","volume":"26","author":[{"given":"Michele","family":"Farisco","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Kathinka","family":"Evers","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Arleen","family":"Salles","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"297","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2020,7,7]]},"reference":[{"key":"238_CR1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"35","DOI":"10.1093\/oso\/9780199277506.003.0002","volume-title":"Persons: Human and divine","author":"R Adams","year":"2007","unstructured":"Adams, R.
