We examine the institutionalisation of responsible innovation in de jure standardisation as this is an important but unexplored research area. In de jure standardisation, stakeholders collaborate in committees to develop standards. We adopt the anticipation, inclusion, reflexivity, and responsiveness responsible innovation framework as our theoretical lens. Our study suggests that responsible standardisation processes should embody forms of these four dimensions. We investigate the institutionalisation of these dimensions and identify 96 factors that can motivate, hinder, or facilitate responsible standardisation. Factors were found through in-depth interviews with managers of a standard developing organisation. These are subsequently validated\/rejected using surveys completed by committee representatives. The results suggest that the social desirability of standards is not self-evident. This study could pave the way for future research on responsible standardisation processes, complementing research on legitimacy, responsible innovation, and standardisation.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1007\/s11948-022-00415-z","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2022,12,7]],"date-time":"2022-12-07T10:03:58Z","timestamp":1670407438000},"update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/springer_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":14,"title":["Responsible Innovation and De Jure Standardisation: An In-Depth Exploration of Moral Motives, Barriers, and Facilitators"],"prefix":"10.1007","volume":"28","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-3059-0182","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Martijn","family":"Wiarda","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Geerten","family":"van de Kaa","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Neelke","family":"Doorn","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Emad","family":"Yaghmaei","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"297","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2022,12,7]]},"reference":[{"issue":"3","key":"415_CR1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","first-page":"488","DOI":"10.2307\/1879431","volume":"84","author":"GA Akerlof","year":"1970","unstructured":"Akerlof, G.
