Those developing AgeTech need to not only consider different end users, including older persons and their caregivers, but also be cognizant of the fact that these groups have a variety of, often conflicting, values. The frameworks of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) and Value-Sensitive Design (VSD) both emphasize the integration of end users\u2019 values into the process of designing new technologies. Drawing from recent empirical and theoretical AgeTech literature, this article presents an argument for applying these frameworks to the field of AgeTech to successfully identify values and manage tensions among them. It aims to inform a more successful AgeTech innovation process in which new technologies represent and prioritize what their intended end users value.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1007\/s11948-025-00541-4","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2025,7,1]],"date-time":"2025-07-01T05:40:38Z","timestamp":1751348438000},"update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/springer_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":3,"title":["Addressing Value Tensions in the Design of Technologies to Support Older Persons (AgeTech) Using Responsible Research and Innovation and Value Sensitive Design"],"prefix":"10.1007","volume":"31","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-8207-2996","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Nadine Andrea","family":"Felber","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-0234-657X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Wendy","family":"Lipworth","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-2969-9655","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Yi Jiao Angelina","family":"Tian","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Vanessa","family":"Duong","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-0857-0510","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Tenzin","family":"Wangmo","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"297","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2025,7,1]]},"reference":[{"key":"541_CR1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","unstructured":"Abdi, J., Al-Hindawi, A., Ng, T., & Vizcaychipi, M.
