One of the central technologies for collecting these data are electronic health records (EHRs). In this commentary, the authors explore intersection between digital health and data-driven reflective practice that is described, including an overview of the role of EHRs underpinning technology innovation in healthcare. Subsequently, they argue that EHRs are a rich but under-utilised source of information on the performance of health professionals and healthcare teams that could be harnessed to support reflective practice and behaviour change. EHRs currently act as systems of data collection, not systems of data engagement and reflection by end users such as health professionals and healthcare organisations. Further consideration should be given to supporting reflective practice by health professionals in the design of EHRs and other clinical information systems.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1007\/s41666-022-00123-0","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2023,1,20]],"date-time":"2023-01-20T16:10:47Z","timestamp":1674231047000},"page":"375-384","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/springer_crossmark_policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":26,"title":["Electronic Health Records That Support Health Professional Reflective Practice: a Missed Opportunity in Digital Health"],"prefix":"10.1007","volume":"6","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-6611-9651","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Anna","family":"Janssen","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Judy","family":"Kay","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Stella","family":"Talic","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Martin","family":"Pusic","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Robert J.","family":"Birnbaum","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Rodrigo","family":"Cavalcanti","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Dragan","family":"Gasevic","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Tim","family":"Shaw","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"297","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2023,1,20]]},"reference":[{"issue":"2","key":"123_CR1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","first-page":"48","DOI":"10.4103\/2226-8561.189504","volume":"2","author":"JS Alpert","year":"2016","unstructured":"Alpert JS (2016) The electronic medical record in 2016: advantages and disadvantages.
