This matter is a by-product derived from biodiesel production containing mainly volatile elements. These compounds could be beneficial to recover the lighter fractions of aged bitumen of RAP \u2013 reclaimed asphalt pavement \u2013 to be added in high-rate incorporation in new asphalt mixtures. Although RAP has excellent potential to be reused in pavement construction and rehabilitation actions, the available data for Europe shows that there is a need for additional efforts to achieve higher levels of RAP reuse.<\/jats:p>\n          <jats:p>This paper presents results from the project CoolAsphalt, which aims to develop low-cost asphalt concrete on an industrial scale with up to 100% of RAP reuse, meeting appropriate requirements for medium \/ low-traffic roads. This 30-month ongoing project was funded by the European Union and the Portugal 2020 programme. It involved the study of different hot and warm asphalt blends in the laboratory in terms of empirical, mechanical, and functional properties. Since most of the binder within the blends suffered ageing due to solar radiation and climate exposure, the effect of secondary long-term ageing on mechanical and functional properties was assessed on asphalt mixtures specimens moulded with a high proportion of RAP and BHO as a rejuvenator.<\/jats:p>\n          <jats:p>The laboratory results revealed that BHO effectively contributed to recovering the aged binder\u2019s properties, considering the results obtained for water sensitivity, rutting resistance, stiffness, and fatigue cracking resistance. Even though practically no gradation adjustment was performed for the resulting asphalt mixtures, the surface and mechanical properties of the asphalt mixtures were suitable.
