In the normal dogs, bacteria rapidly disappeared from the blood; no bacteria were detected in the bile of these animals. In the jaundiced dogs, not only did the bacteria disappear from the blood less rapidly, but also appeared in the bile almost simultaneously. The different possible mechanisms for this activity are discussed.
