As a result, six populations of <jats:italic>Xiphinema<\/jats:italic> spp. identified as <jats:italic>X<\/jats:italic>. <jats:italic>diffusum, X<\/jats:italic>. <jats:italic>pachtaicum, X<\/jats:italic>. <jats:italic>simile, X<\/jats:italic>. <jats:italic>vuittenezi<\/jats:italic> and <jats:italic>X. zagrosense<\/jats:italic> were isolated from the rhizosphere of banana plants (<jats:italic>Musa<\/jats:italic> sp.) and characterized using morphological and molecular data based on two rRNA genes (D2\u2013D3 expansion segments of the 28S, and ITS fragments) and partial region of the cytochrome oxidase I gene (<jats:italic>COI<\/jats:italic> mtDNA) sequences. Moreover, the molecular identification of the endosymbionts of these populations was also performed using the complete 16S rDNA gene. The phylogenetic relationships of the recovered species of nematodes and respective endosymbionts were reconstructed. <jats:italic>Candidatus<\/jats:italic> Xiphinematobacter sp. (OR196969; OR196971) and <jats:italic>Ca.<\/jats:italic> Xiphinematobacter sp. (OR196970) were detected in <jats:italic>X. diffusum<\/jats:italic> and <jats:italic>X. simile<\/jats:italic>, respectively, and clustered together with other <jats:italic>Ca.<\/jats:italic> Xiphinematobacter sp.A and sp.I respectively.
