In this article, we try to show the historical evolution of this relationship, and as well highlight some aspects that arise from both the human rights approach and from social work as a field of knowledge and an ethical profession. To achieve the above intention, we carried out an exploratory literature review of articles published in the last 20 years in journals indexed in the scientific databases of Scopus, Web of Science, and EBSCO Information Services. It was during that period that there was an increase of publications on the topic. The results from this analysis demonstrate a social work focus on people and society’s dignity in promoting human rights. However, the way in which the profession and its codes of ethics embrace human rights raises controversies. This arises from the fact that professional practice is mainly carried out in specific social, political, and cultural contexts that significantly influence the profession. In order to respond to arising issues, social work needs to embrace an interdependent human rights framework, and professionals need to be guided by codes of ethics that are based on human rights approaches.
[[2025,6,24
["Human Rights-Based Social Work Perspective, Ethics, and Practice: An Exploratory Literature Review
[[2025,6,25
393_CR1
Albuquerque, C.
