Proteinase I preferentially hydrolyzes Z\u2010Phe\u2014Arg\u2010NMec with pH optimum at 8\u20139. The enzyme activity is stabilized by ATP against thermal inactivation. Proteinase II and III were not resolved by anion\u2010exchange chromatography, by affinity chromatography on Arginine\u2014Sepharose or by gel filtration. Proteinase II, splitting Bz\u2010Val\u2010Gly\u2010Arg\u2010NMec optimally at pH 10\u201310.5, is inactivated by ATP, whereas Proteinase III, hydrolyzing Suc\u2010Ala\u2010Ala\u2010Phe\u2010NMec at pH 7\u20137.5 is not affected by the nucleotide.
