The cDNA encodes a polypeptide of 355 amino acids (<jats:italic>M<\/jats:italic>\n<jats:sub>r<\/jats:sub> 40456). The amino acid sequence homology between human G<jats:sub>i\u03b1<\/jats:sub> and rat, murine, and bovine G<jats:sub>i\u03b1<\/jats:sub> is 98.6, 97.7 and 87.9% respectively. Differentiation of the U937 cells from monoblasts to monocyte\u2010like cells resulted in a 3\u2010fold increase in G<jats:sub>i\u03b1<\/jats:sub> mRNA as well as a 3.6\u2010fold increase in the 41 kDa pertussis toxin substrate presumed to be G<jats:sub>i\u03b1<\/jats:sub>.
